How soon should I book my makeup artist?
In order to avoid disappointment, I suggest booking your makeup artist as soon as you know your wedding date. Some brides book me as far as a year or more in advance.
Which makeup brands do you use?
MAC, Bobbi Brown, Urban Decay, Benefit, Chanel, Toofaced, L’Oréal, Maybelline, NARS, Beauty Blender, Eucerin, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Armani, Inglot, Rimmel, Laura Mercier, Estée Lauder and more.
Can I book a trial before I secure my deposit?
99% of brides book and secure their wedding date first and then do their trials later. I have quite an extensive portfolio in order for you to see the standard of work that I produce. However if you still feel that you would like to book a trial before making payment, it all depends on my availability at the time. During high season (December-April) I have limited time and my priority lies with my confirmed bride’s bridal trials. During low season (May- August) I am more able to accommodate you. Please also note that I take the first bride who books me, so if you do a trial before booking, you are at risk of losing the wedding date and time slot.
What is the deposit % to confirm my booking?
50% deposit secures the booking date and times.
How long will my makeup last on the day?
Bridal makeup is applied with techniques for longevity. I use products such as eye shadow primers, powders and setting sprays to lock in your makeup. Given that we have consulted at a trial and I know your skin type and concerns, I am confident that your wedding makeup will last the entire day- up until you get home, with the exception of touching up your lipstick.
Do you spend the whole weddding day with the bride?
I do not offer this service, as there is no need for it. I only come for the makeup application that the bride has booked, and leave once it is complete.
Do you do hairstyling?
I am a qualified professional hairstylist and offer bridal hairstyling as part of my packages.
What are the travel costs involved?
Travel is calculated at AA rates per KM. I will give you the rate and calculate the exact KM from my home to the address where you will be getting ready, and back to my home.
Which areas do you cover?
I cover all areas in Cape Town, the Western Cape and when booked in advance, I am available nationally and internationally.
How early do you start on the day?
We start as early as you need us to be there.
When is the best time to do my trial?
Ideally I do all my trials within a month before the wedding date. Reason being is if we do the trial any earlier, the bride is inundated with wedding ideas from Pinterest, Instagram and other media and tend to change their mind on their wedding looks. Due to my busy schedule, I do not have time to repeat trials, and therefore in my experience this is the best time for both the bride and myself to do the trial.
Do you meet with the bride-to-be beforehand or do you first meet at the trial?
The first time I meet my bride is at a trial or any pre-wedding booking. Due to my busy schedule I am unable to meet each bride before they book me. I am however available to answer all your questions via phone and Whatsapp!
Do you come to the bride?
I come to the bride on the day of her wedding, however all trials are done at my house in Claremont, Cape Town.
Do I need to book a touch up?
Touch ups are not part of my services as in my experience there is no need for this. If the bride has her makeup done prior to her wedding ceremony and she cries, I advise her on how to wipe her tears in a way that does not ruin her makeup application. The only makeup that really needs touching up on the day is the lipstick. I have a few secret tips and advice for Zar Brides to keep their makeup intact on the day.
How long does the process take at trials and on the day?
Bridal makeup trial: +- 1,5 hours
Bridal makeup on the day: 1 hour
Bridal makeup and hair trial: +-3 hours
Bridal makeup and hairstyle on the day: 2 hours
Which factors have been taken into account to achieve the prices for wedding makeup?
My prices are market-related. My rates also cover all of my expenses (products, consumables, tools, petrol, wear-and-tear), my time, the price you pay for a qualified artist on your wedding day (i.e. my education), my experience, and my brand.
Pre-wedding shoot and pre-wedding functions
Depending on my availability, you may book me for all of your pre-wedding look requirements. This ensures consistency across all of your photographs; and also means that by the time it is the wedding day, we are 100% comfortable with each other; I am aware of your skin-type and what works and does not work for you on the big day.
What do you do if there is a larger party?
If the bridal party is large, I usually book makeup/hair assistants to work with me. My focus is on the bride as she is my top priority, however my assistants are carefully screened and I only work with people who I trust to offer the best quality of work.
Why should I book a trial?
Trials are especially important for brides who have skin concerns, want to see how long the makeup lasts on their face, are not sure what the best look is for them on the day and also to gain trust in me as their makeup artist. The best part about the trial is that we get to build a rapport, and by the time the wedding arrives, we both know what and who we are dealing with. The wedding day can be quite rushed, and because I would have already done a trial with you, I will have a plan as to what I am going to do on the day. I will always suggest a trial as this will put your mind at ease on the big day.
When is final payment due?
Final payment needs to be paid on the day of the wedding. If you are paying via EFT, please ensure that the balance is reflected in my account on the wedding day for the latest. Cash on the day is also accepted. Some brides like to pay the full amount upfront, or pay off their balance in the months leading to the wedding date. I don’t mind, as long as the balance is paid by the wedding date.
